Last weekend, members of the UNMC Rural Pharmacy Student Association (RPSA) held a Medicare Part D workshop at the Pamida Pharmacy in Beatrice, during which they counseled patients on how to get the most from their benefits. It's the third consecutive year UNMC RPSA students held the workshop in Beatrice. (Read about last year's workshop.)

Jill Poole, M.D., of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, received a grant from the Foundation of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. It presented a $50,000 Young Faculty Support Award for a study Dr. Poole is conducting on the role of vitamin D in chronic hives.

The UNMC College of Nursing Northern Division hosted its first Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) Nursing Visit Day in September. Five freshmen -- the first class of nursing RHOP students at Wayne State College -- spent a day in Norfolk, which included skills lab and simulation introduction and tours at Faith Regional Health Services. After successfully completing their nursing prerequisites at Wayne State, the RHOP students will be admitted to the Northern Division in Fall 2013.
