Joslyn Art Museum is offering weekend "garden yoga" sessions to the UNMC community.

At 2 p.m. on Sundays throughout August -- specifically, Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25 -- there will be free hour-long yoga sessions in Joslyn's outdoor sculpture garden.

Instructors from Omaha Yoga & Bodywork Center will guide participants through basic poses to help strengthen your balance, lengthen your body and center your mind. Go early or stay late to stroll through the museum galleries or picnic in the gardens.

See sidebar: OwL Ride set for Saturday night

In case of rain, sessions will be moved indoors to the fountain court. Reservations are not required.

OwL Ride takes flight

The fourth annual Owl Ride, Omaha's nighttime urban cycling adventure, begins at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Old Mattress Factory at 13th and Cass and follows a 17-mile course. A shorter 8-mile short-cut course is also available. (See a map of the course here.)

Participants can sign up through Friday here or register on the day of the ride from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sports Authority store at 885 S. 72nd Street; or beginning at 8 p.m. at the Mattress Factory. The cost is $30 for individuals and $10 for riders 18 and under when accompanied by an adult; $35 and $15 the day of the event.

The ride benefits the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities, which funds community programs operated by the professional staff of the Munroe-Meyer Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
