Ever wonder why so few deans or chancellors are family physicians? Why there seems to be a chronic shortage of chairpersons for family medicine departments? Why the NIH budgets a relatively small amount of money for primary care research?

If you have, then you're the person we're looking for. The purpose of this four-year program is to prepare individuals to assume faculty roles in medical schools and residency training programs. In addition to receiving a full range of clinical training in family practice, trainees have opportunities to develop scholarly skills in teaching and research.

Graduates will be well-prepared to step into teaching or research positions in medical education. As there are very few programs like this in the country, we anticipate that people with this experience will be in high demand nationally.

ACADEMIC CAREER TRACK FP/MPH

Trainees will have the option of pursuing a master's degree in public health or medical education as part of their training. We accept one person per year in this pathway.

The year-by-year structure of this program is similar to that of the FP/MBA program described elsewhere. If you're interested in academic family medicine, primary care research or both, this is the place for you.
