The Rural Training Track (RTT) is a program conceived and developed by the Department of Family Medicine. Based on the concept that residents tend to practice within 100 miles of where they train, a network was developed to have Family Practice residents train at key sites across the state of Nebraska.

Family Practice residents in the RTT program spend their first year of training in the Department of Family Medicine at UNMC in Omaha and the remaining two years at their rural training site. The program has several features that make it attractive to residents planning on practicing in rural Nebraska, including the size of the program with only two second year and two third year residents at each site and having the residents practice in a continuity clinic in a small, underserved rural community located close to their main training site. These positions are open to all eligible seniors from any school through the match.
