UNMC PubMed Settings to Change

The process of linking to full text in PubMed via the library portal (www.unmc.edu/library - Medline/PubMed from the left menu) will become more streamlined in the upcoming weeks. There will be an icon on every abstract that says 'GetIt@UNMC'. This icon will take users to all linking options for full text for that article. If there are no immediate options available, the form will link the user to a prepopulated interlibrary loan form where the article may be requested for document delievery (appropriate charges apply). The gray/red icons that state 'UNMC Full Text' and 'UNMC Catalog' will no longer be visible on the abstract, as their functionality is now rolled into the 'GetIt@UNMC' process. Please note that the holdings tabs at the top of a search results screen will remain the same. These tabs list 'free full text' 'review articles' and 'UNMC Library Holdings' and will take the user to a collection of abstracts within the search results that fall under their respective criteria.

PubMed e-mail is not working

The "Send To" "e-mail" function in PubMed is not working.  An e-mail with introductory message is produced but no PubMed records are included in the received e-mail.  This is true for e-mail in .html and plain text formats and is true for messages sent to UNMC and non-UNMC e-mail addresses.  The PubMed technical support staff has been contacted.

Library Increases Accessibility of Articles Via PubMed, Expediating the Interlibrary Loan Process and Streamlining Link Options
The Library is pleased to announce the implementation of Outside Tool in PubMed. When accessing PubMed via the library home page every abstract view of a given citation now includes a new button:.

Clicking on this button will give a display of the following screen, offering:

* a direct link to full text where available
* a link to check for print in the catalog
* a link to the McGoogan
Order Articles Form, when direct full text and print are unavailable, or when a photocopy is needed

The Order Articles Form will prompt for a username and password. If it encounters a new user, it will offer a link to create an ILL user account. After authentication is confirmed, the form will prepopulate the article information in most cases. If the data sent to the form is incomplete, it will occasionally default to a blank form into which the user will have to type the citation information and submit.

Here is the Order Articles Login Screen. Note the 'New User' link at the bottom of the form. Users will enter or create a personal username and password. This username and password is not associated with the Lotus Notes/LDAP system. It will not change.

If you have any questions about how to use these new tools or have any other library access issue, please email the reference desk. If you prefer, you can contact the Reference Desk by phone at 559-6221 or toll-free 1-866-800-5209, Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. We are always happy to help.
