TARGET AUDIENCE: Advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, and other interested healthcare professionals, especially those caring for cancer patients.

 
     
 

PROGRAM GOAL: This educational activity will explain the problem of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), including epidemiology and etiology, symptoms experienced by patients, and the efficacy of both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for CIPN.

 
     
 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this program, the participant should be better able to:

  • Review the epidemiology of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).
  • Explain the causes of CIPN.
  • Describe the symptoms of CIPN.
  • Compare available pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies for CIPN.
