Emergency Preparedness: Awareness Training for Healthcare Workers
 
     
     
 

TARGET AUDIENCE: Nurses and other health care professionals.

 
     
 

PROGRAM GOAL: This educational activity will serve as a primer on emergency preparedness concepts for nurses and other hospital and pre-hospital personnel.

 
     
 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this program, the participant should be better able to:

  • Describe the phases of emergency management and their importance to hospital preparedness regulations.
  • Explain the triage procedure and categories.
  • Compare mental health concerns in disaster from those of everyday practice and patient care.
  • Explore at least two important concepts in the hospital response to a contaminated patient.
  • Define important actions in caring for a patient with a highly dangerous, infectious illness.
  • Illustrate the need for incident specific types of personal protective equipment when dealing with chemical, biological, or radiological events.
  • Review the role of public health in determining the need for biocontainment care for a patient.
  • List organizations for involvement in emergency preparedness.
