How do I apply for continuing education contact hours through home study or online?
To set up a profile to take our post-tests for contact hours, click the link on our sign-in page that says "New User?" You will then be taken to page where you enter your information and choose your User ID and password.
I do not have a username or password clearly provided in the material sent to me.
The information sent to you for home study will not have a User ID or password to our system. You will need to set those up when you open a profile on our site.
I am trying to become a new user of the home study program. I try to sign up by hitting "new user" and the form asks for a User ID.
This is the part of the form where you enter the User ID you wish to use when logging into our site.
What format should I use for my User ID and password?
You may choose any combination of letters or numerals. If your choice is not valid, you will be notified and you will have the opportunity to try again.
How long do I have to wait before my account is active?
Your profile is active immediately. You do not need to wait for a confirmation email or a notice from the webmaster to begin using our site.

Your profile information

What is my profile information used for?
Your profile information is requested to provide a unique identifier for each participant. Also, to meet our accreditation standards, we need to be able to verify the location, professional status, and other information of our learners.
Why do you require my nursing license information?
Some states from which we have accreditation as a continuing education provider require that we record this information. This information is part of the public record, however, and is very easy to verify should someone try to use it improperly.
Is my information secure?
All sessions logged into our site are secured. The information you enter cannot be intercepted or read by third parties. All information housed on our server is also secure.
Do you share or sell this information?
We do not sell this information. This information is only available to the Continuing Education Department and to our content providers on a need-to-know basis for demographic analysis and to report the results of survey information.
When I set up my profile, I was a nurse. Since then, I took a job as a physician’s assistant. How can I change my profile to reflect that?
You may edit your profile at any time to update your professional status, contact information or password.
When I click on "Forget your User ID" and try to retrieve my password, I get nothing in my email. What has happened?
The automated User ID and password use the email address entered when you set up your profile. You must check that email box for your User ID and password.
I don’t have access to the email account I used to set up my profile anymore. How can I retrieve my User ID?
You may contact the webmaster, who will verify your profile information. He will then update your email address and you may retrieve your information by following the process.
I lost my User ID and/or my password. Can you email them to me or tell me over the phone?
UNMC policy prohibits us from sending or requesting User IDs or passwords over the phone or by a message from staff email accounts. The automated procedure is the only one authorized for this purpose.
Why doesn’t your site recognize my User ID or password?
There may be several reasons. First, some of our content providers require a log in from users to access information on their site. This profile information is not shared with us. You will need to set up an account on our site to access the evaluation and post-test we provide.

Second, you may not have completed the process to set up a profile, for reasons ranging from session interruption to accidental closing of the page before completion.

If you do have an account with Continuing Nursing Education, you may try to retrieve your information by clicking on the “Forget your User ID?” or “Forget your password?” links. Additionally, you may contact the webmaster to verify that you have an account on our site.

Using the site

I'm unable to access the materials to study for the test.
Content is available on our content partners’ websites. Links to many of these presentations can be found at http://www.unmc.edu/nursing/cne, under Online and Independent Study.
I’ve been asked for a Program Number. What is this, and where would I find it?
The program number is a reference used by our partners and us to identify a particular program offering. You may find it in the study materials for each program. Also, you may find it on the listing on our program selection page, which you may find after logging in to our site.
I started to complete an online test and was interrupted during the test. I did not complete the last couple of questions and it will not let me back in to complete it. If I did not pass the test, can I retake it to get the CE?
If you did not pass the test, a certificate will not be issued and you may return to retake the test. If it does not let you in, please check your certificate list and verify that it was issued. If you do not have a certificate listed for the program, and the site will not let you retake the exam, the webmaster will be able to assist you in gaining access.
I would prefer to view materials and take the evaluation and post-test by hard copy, rather than online. Is this available?
We no longer make hard copies of our evaluations and tests available by email or fax. The technical requirements to use our site are minimal, and work with all computer systems and browsers.
I continued to the evaluation which I completed but your system would not let me submit it, stating I needed to complete what was in red. I answered all the questions with a YES, and did not think I needed to comment on any of these questions.
There are a few surveys for which our partners wish to know not only whether participation in a CE activity will affect your professional practice, but whether it will not. For this reason, these surveys require a response regardless of your previous answers.
I currently am traveling and have limited access to a computer. I have the articles and would like you to email me the evaluation and post-test so I can complete and fax them to you when I return to work.
You may not always have internet access readily available. However, the post-tests and evaluations for our programs are good one year from the issue date. That should allow you time to complete the materials when internet access is available to you.
I tried to contact you by email, but I have not heard back.
We have had several email addresses where the response came back to us as undeliverable. If this happens repeatedly, we will attempt to reach you by another means. If you have tried to contact us by email, with no response, please contact us by phone.

Certificates for Contact Hours

I completed one of your programs, and am not sure how I will get proof that I passed. Will this be e-mailed to me or is it on the web somewhere for me to print?
Upon the successful completion of a post-test, you will be taken to a page where you may view your certificate. At this point, you may either print it or save it as a PDF. It will also be available on our site for you to look up in the future.
For how long are my contact hours good?
Each state board of nursing may have specific regulations regarding how long contact hours are recognized. In most cases, your contact hours are good for one year from the date you took the post-test. In some cases they may be good for two years.
I completed a post-test and received a certificate, but I do not have a printer. Can you mail my certificate to me?
It is not our policy to mail out certificates for on-line programs. Another option may include saving the certificate as a PDF, which can then be emailed or saved on a network folder for review.
How do I get a PDF of my certificate?
To make a PDF of a certificate, select the Print option under your browser’s “File” menu (usually at the very top left). If you are using a Windows-based computer, there is an option under Printer Name for Adobe PDF. Upon clicking “OK” you will be asked to name and choose a location for your PDF. If you are using a Mac, there will be a button to save as a PDF to the left of the “Print” button.
