Sacred Heart School seeks mentors for 7th and 8th grade students
Sacred Heart School seeks male and female mentors for 7th and 8th grade students for the upcoming school year. Sacred Heart is an inner city catholic school that has about 170 students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The school's mentoring program has been around for almost 20 years and is the most popular school program for the 7th and 8th graders. Mentors will be asked to make a two-year commitment and meet with their mentees on the third Thursday of each month from September through May. Mentors pick up their students at 8:30 a.m., introduce them to your job, department, UNMC and the Omaha community at large. Students are to be returned to the school by 12:30 p.m. Several UNMC employees have participated in this program, including Clarence Ueda, Pharm.D., professor of pharmaceutical sciences and former dean of the College of Pharmacy, who has served as mentor at the school for the past 15 years. Those interested in the program should contact Karen Meginnis at murphkm@msn.com.
