NCI director Dr. Niederhuber to present Sept. 22 Eppley Grand Rounds, Yanney/Roskens Lecture 
John Niederhuber, M.D., director of the National Cancer Institute, will present "Cancer as an Organ System: The Tumor Microenvironment" on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at noon in the Durham Research Center Auditorium. That same evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Truhlsen Event Center in the Sorrell Center, Dr. Niederhuber will speak at the Yanney/Roskens Lectureship. Presented by the Eppley Cancer Center, the lectureship honors Michael and Gail Yanney and William and Lisa Roskens for their work as honorary chairs of the 2008 Ambassador of Hope Gala. Dr. Niederhuber's evening lecture for the public is titled "Making a Collective Impact Against Cancer." The Carol Bell Distinguished Cancer Research Award also will be given at the event. Dr. Niederhuber was appointed director of the NCI in September 2006. In addition to his leadership of the NCI, Dr. Niederhuber heads his own Laboratory of Tumor and Stem Cell Biology in NCI's Center for Cancer Research and also holds a clinical appointment to the NIH Clinical Center Medical Staff.
