Camp Quality Heartland seeks volunteers
Camp Quality Heartland, a non-profit organization that provides free camping experiences and year-round activities for children with cancer and their families, is looking for volunteers to work one-on-one with children at a camp in June. Campers are children with cancer, or their siblings, ranging in age from 3 to 18 years old. Developing a friendship, ensuring safety, and offering ongoing support are the main responsibilities of volunteer companions.

The camp will be June 21-25 in Guthrie Center, Iowa, which is about 90 minutes east of Omaha. Mandatory training for volunteer companions is scheduled June 2 and 3 in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, complete an application, complete a face-to-face interview and pass reference and police background checks. Final selection of companions is made following volunteer training and is based on the number of campers who apply. Anyone interested in applying should contact Marcia Hopkins, volunteer coordinator for Camp Quality Heartland, at mrchopkins@cox.net or (712) 322-0676. Visit the Camp Quality USA Web site to learn more about the organization.
