Camp Quality Heartland seeks volunteers for June summer camp
Camp Quality Heartland, a non-profit organization that provides free camping experiences and year-round activities for children with cancer and their families, is looking for volunteers. The Nebraska Medical Center is one of the organization's sponsors. Volunteers are needed to work one-on-one with children at a camp in June. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, complete an application, face-to-face interview and pass reference and police background checks. Final selection of companions is made following volunteer training and is based on the number of campers who apply. Campers are children with cancer, or their siblings, ranging in age from 3 to 18 years old. The camp will be June 21-25 in Guthrie Center, Iowa, which is about 90 minutes east of Omaha. Mandatory training for volunteer companions is scheduled June 2 and 3 in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area. Those interested in applying to be a camp volunteer can contact Hopkins at mrchopkins@cox.net or (712) 322-0676. More information about the organization can be found at www.campqualityusa.com.
