Benefit Sept. 23 for congenital heart defects
Midwest Heart Connection, a statewide support group for congenital heart defect (CHD) patients and their families, has announced its third annual Hearts of Hope benefit event on Sept. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Mutual of Omaha Dome, 33rd and Dodge Streets. Hearts of Hope will celebrate the advancements in medical treatment of CHD and will highlight the need for increased funding for research and patient support. The event will include an oral and silent auction, video, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, keynote address by Dr. Zahid Amin and entertainment by Michael Walker and Blue House with the Rent to Own Horns.

CHD is the most common birth defect and the most common cause of death among all birth defects. Hearts of Hope tickets are $75 per person and are available on the Midwest Heart Connection Web site at www.midwestheartconnection.com. Reservations are requested by Sept. 15. All proceeds from Hearts of Hope will be used to improve awareness, detection and treatment of congenital heart defects, as well as support those afflicted with CHD. A portion will be directed to a research and support fund developed by pediatric cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery physicians at Children's Hospital, UNMC and Creighton University.
