ITS says wait to upgrade to Windows Vista and Office 2007
Microsoft Windows is releasing a version of the Windows operating system called Windows Vista, which is replacing Windows XP. Microsoft also is releasing a new version of Office (Office 2007 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access as well as several other included products). These products are major upgrades and include many changes to the way programs and software operate. Initial testing shows that even common tasks are accomplished differently in these new versions. ITS is currently testing the new Microsoft products with common applications that are used at UNMC and with the campus information system infrastructure, including the campus antivirus software. Currently, unless there is a significant business need to upgrade to Windows Vista or Microsoft Office 2007, ITS recommends not upgrading to either of these products at this time. ITS will provide communication updates regarding the new software as it becomes available.
