Lincoln's assassination focus of Nov. 13 Smithsonian presentation
The Durham Western Heritage Museum is back on campus once again with a Smithsonian Lecture given by Anthony Pitch about the death of Abraham Lincoln. Join Pitch on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at noon in the College of Nursing Cooper Auditorium as he discusses Lincoln's death -- an event Pitch regards as the saddest story in American history. Pitch will retrace this historic event from a medical standpoint based on his extensive research of the subject. Delving into Lincoln's autopsy and the physical evidence of the assassination, Pitch uncovers details and medical information that is often overlooked by other historians. Pitch is the award-winning author of numerous books, including the forthcoming, "They Killed Papa Dead!" He also is a regular commentator for C-SPAN, The History Channel, National Public Radio and other outlets. A former journalist in England, Africa and Israel, Pitch has reported for The Associated Press and U.S.News & World Report. An evening lecture also is scheduled at the Durham Western Heritage Museum that night beginning at 5 p.m. with an hors d' oeuvres and cash bar reception followed by the lecture at 6:30 p.m. RSVP's are required and can be made by calling Andrea Boschult at 444-5071. Seating is limited so call today! The presentation is a part of the Time Travelers partnership between the museum and the medical center. The partnership allows employees and students to receive free admission to the museum year round with a valid medical center identification.
