March 18 Durham museum presentation focused on history of basketball
Dr. Bill Worley of the Kansas Humanities Council will present "James Naismith, Inventor of Basketball" on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Durham Western Heritage Museum. Why are we challenged each year with March Madness? Who is responsible for this annual malady? What is the magic of the Final Four? Bill Worley, donning the persona of James Naismith, introduces us to the game in 1891 and then follows its growth and acceptance in this country and Europe as it moves through the YMCA network to become one of the most popular sports in the world. You will not want to miss this story about the invention of basketball! Dr. Worley is professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Thanks to partnership with the museum, UNMC employees and students can attend this presentation free with valid identification. Due to limited seating, the museum requests that you contact Andrea Boschult at 444-5071 or aboschult@dwhm.org to reserve your space in the Stanley & Dorothy Truhlsen Lecture Hall. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. and seating begins at 6:15.
