MMI Americorps toy drive runs through Dec. 22
Help us make the holidays more "toy-ful!" The Munroe-Meyer Institute's Americorps program is sponsoring a toy drive now through Dec. 22. New, unwrapped toys will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation while clean, gently used toys will be donated to the Open Door Mission Lydia House. Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has given hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Open Door Mission's Lydia House provides emergency services for women and families in need of immediate assistance. Food, shelter, clothing and other basic needs are provided. Each person is offered an opportunity for life-change through case management in taking the first steps toward preventing future homelessness. Lydia House also offers long-term recovery programs to address the causes for homelessness, such as abuse, addiction, or the inability to obtain and maintain steady employment. Some toy ideas for the Lydia House include:
  • Fleece blankets;
  • Baby Dolls;
  • Baby Doll sets; and
  • Action Figures.
Please drop off your toy donations in the festive holiday boxes located outside the MMI Psychology Department, the AmeriCorps Student Office and the Patient Information Office or in the waiting areas of the Dental Clinic and Patient Check-In. For more information, please contact Sheila Shanle at 559-6408 or MMI Americorps Coordinator, Dr. Stacy Bliss Fudge at 559-4409. Thank you for making a difference and Happy Holidays.
