'YOUth Can! Against Hunger' runs April 14-24
On April 24, in celebration of Global Youth Service Day, the Munroe-Meyer Institute's Americorps program is conducting YOUth Can! Against Hunger, a city-wide food drive benefiting the Omaha Food Bank. Our volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food donations at all area Bag N' Save locations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The next day we will deliver the donations to the Omaha Food Bank and assist in stocking shelves. If you are unable to join us at Bag N' Save to donate, there is another way you can help us in making the event a success. Beginning April 14 through April 24, you can drop off your food donations in the Omaha Food Bank barrel near the vending machines outside the patient check-in area on the first floor of the Munroe-Meyer Institute. Last year, the Omaha Food Bank provided food to over 300,000 individuals in need. It serves seventy-seven Nebraska counties and sixteen western Iowa counties. More than 300 helping organizations partner with the food bank to distribute food in the community. Five to seven tons of food was distributed in 2008. For more information, please contact Sheila Shanle at 559-6408 or MMI Americorps Coordinator, Dr. Stacy Bliss Fudge, at 559-4409.
