She takes over for Teresa Scanlan, who vacated her state crown after she was named Miss America earlier this month.

Haverland was Miss Douglas County and finished third runner up to Scanlan in the Miss Nebraska pageant in October.

Her pageant platform was to advocate for more science education in schools, a message she plans to advance during her term as Miss Nebraska.

Read a story in The North Platte Telegraph about Haverland's new title.

I am glad to read you are promoting science education, and especially to girls! They NEED to know how exciting and cool the science professions really are!
