Dr. Chaperon is an Associate Professor with a gerontological nurse practitioner (GNP) board certification since 1997. Dr. Chaperon has continuously maintained an independent practice since 2005, won an award in Excellence in Nursing – APRN from the National Gerontological Nursing Association, and the Spirit of Community Service – UNMC, both in 2012. She is known for her leadership in Interprofessional Collaborative Practice and Education across the Colleges and community, inducted into the Interprofessional Academy of Educators in 2017, and a leader in instructional design for interactive education of advanced practice nursing and pharmacy students.
Dr. Chaperon is an associate professor, Coordinator of the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program. She is active in Doctorate of Practice and Doctorate of Philosophy advisement.
Her areas of interest in clinical and molecular genetics research and scholarship include:
- Comparative Effectiveness Research on Models of Care to promote safe transitions from acute care into skilled nursing facilities.
- Interprofessional Collaborative Practice and Education to build a competent and safe workforce for older adults in transition: Complex medical problems, geriatric syndromes, palliative care, advanced care plans, and more.
- The effects of sleep-disturbing environments on late life health maintenance: genomics, epigenetics, water and electrolyte balance and blood pressure regulation.
