    Target Audience

This accredited continuing education conference is designed for advanced practice providers and nurses across the region who care for individuals affected by psychiatric and substance-related conditions. The event explores the complex interplay between hope and harm in the use of psychotropic and controlled substances across the lifespan-from pregnancy to geriatrics. Through expert-led sessions, participants will gain evidence-based insights into safe prescribing, stigma reduction, and holistic support strategies tailored to diverse populations and care settings.

The conference features presentations from both Lincoln and Kearney on antipsychotics, ADHD medications, psychiatric treatment during pregnancy and lactation, substance use in pregnancy, and deprescribing in older adults. Special attention is given to rural access to medication-assisted treatment and the ethical considerations of polypharmacy.

    Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be better able to:

    • Apply evidence-based pharmacologic principles to optimize safe and effective prescribing of psychotropic and controlled medications across the lifespan.
    • Evaluate ethical, social, and cultural factors that influence prescribing, deprescribing, and access to behavioral health and substance use treatments.
    • Integrate interprofessional communication and collaboration strategies to enhance safety, reduce stigma, and promote holistic patient-centered care.
    • Analyze population-level barriers including rural access, perinatal risk, and geriatric polypharmacy to identify opportunities for equitable care delivery.
