Dr. Hultquist is an Associate Professor in the Omaha Division. She received her associate and bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center – Lincoln Division. Dr. Hultquist received her masters and PhD degrees in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center – Omaha Division. Dr. Hultquist’s practice background includes over 15 years in maternal-child inpatient, clinic, home health and parent education settings. She also practiced over a decade in home health and public health quality management and evaluation. She has been in various staff development, evaluator, consultant and manager positions throughout her practice career. She began her academic teaching career in public health and maternal child nursing, and currently teaches professional graduate level nursing leadership/administration.


  • Teaches courses for professional graduate MSN level and DNP students, including finance/economics, nursing leadership/administration ethical/legal issues, and capstone courses
  • Serves as a DNP advisor
  • Has led development of e-learning online and flipped classroom modules for undergraduate and professional graduate nursing students, to encourage development and practice of leadership skills (e.g. political savvy, organizational agility, business acumen, motivating others)


Dr. Hultquist’s research focus has been on women’s health, in particular midlife women who may experience disparities in health or health care (low-income or rural women), as well as health and health behavior change in various populations experiencing chronic conditions. Recently she has also begun research in the area of e-learning and flipped classroom instructional strategies in nursing leadership.

  • Principal Investigator for Weight Maintenance through Physical Activity and Social Support in Rural Middle Aged Women funded by UNMC College of Nursing Dean’s Research Grant (2010-2012)
  • Pilot Study Principal Investigator for Interdisciplinary Heart Health Center: Linking Rural Populations by Technology funded by the National Institutes of Health / National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) (C. Pullen, PI, 2009-2014)
  • Project Director for Reducing Disparities in Type 2 Diabetes Care Through a Network of Nursing Centers funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (2007-2012)
